Batshuayi vows to do Aubameyang celebration after filling Dortmund boots

Michy Batshuayi is determined to fill the boots of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund, so much so that he is going to steal his celebration.

The Belgium international formed part of a striker merry-go-round on deadline day of the winter transfer window, as three deals were completed in quick succession.

As Aubameyang left Dortmund for Arsenal, Olivier Giroud was freed to head for Chelsea.

His arrival at Stamford Bridge nudged Batshuayi down the pecking order, so he completed the circle by making a loan switch to Germany.

The 24-year-old made a positive impression in his new surroundings, netting twice on debut, and has vowed to emulate Aubameyang’s goal celebration if he finds the target on his home bow against Hamburg on Saturday.

“I will do the somersault in my new stadium,” Batshuayi told reporters ahead of the Bundesliga fixture.

The Belgian should be in confident mood heading into a meeting with a struggling outfit that sits inside the relegation zone.

He had already netted 10 times for Chelsea this season before being deemed surplus to requirements.

Dortmund are delighted to have seen that exit door opened, with a proven performer added to their books.

Peter Stoger is prepared to show the kind of faith in Batshuayi that he was denied at Stamford Bridge under Antonio Conte, with his new boss hoping the goals will flow against Hamburg.

He said: “He will definitely try to do well in his first home game.

“Of course, the expectation has increased after his goals against Cologne, so it's not always that easy.”
