A number of names have been mooted for Inter's trequartista role, with Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart among those to be thrown into the pot, but Inter could shock the world of Calcio by moving for former Milan player Yoann Gourcuff.

The Ligue 1 Player of the Year scored twice for Bordeaux on Sunday as they eased to a 4-1 victory over Racing Club de Lens, and he has shown excellent control and awareness, as well as a knack of scoring some spectacular goals, in the colours of les Girondins.

According to 24oredisport.com, Jose Mourinho has ear-marked the 23-year-old as another option for his attacking midfield position. While Dejan Stankovic filled in the role last season, Mourinho is looking for a more natural attacking midfielder but his search has been fruitless so far.

This could change if he was to move for Gourcuff, who is valued at €20 million by Bordeaux, around €5m more than they paid for him earlier this summer. The challenge of Serie A remains unfulfilled for the Frenchman, who failed to make an impression at Milan prior to being loaned to Bordeaux.

However, after signing a four-year contract with the French champions it will take all of Mourinho’s persuasive powers to tear Gourcuff away from the Aquitaine side.
