After losing nearly every game at home this season Jaguares walked away with a good result against Santos. Jaguares got their second tie at home but it likely felt like a victory after facing an opponent like Santos. Santos opened things up first in the 24th minute thanks to Walter Jimenez. Jaguares responded in the 50th minute with a goal from Danilo Barrios. Jaguares could have gone further ahead but Oribe Peralta could not find the goal.
Jaguares continue winless at home while Santos prepare to say goodbye to the Estadio Corona.
First Half
Jaguares was looking for their first home win of the campaign as they started off strong against Santos.
Jaguares came close to opening things up in the 9th minute. Oribe Peralta set up a nice screen for Neri Cardozo. Cardozo took a shot inside of the box. the ball went past Oswaldo Sanchez but Juan Pablo Santiago was at the line to clear the ball away.
Santos had no reaction up until the 22nd minute. Vicente Matias Vuoso received the ball inside the box from Carlos Darwin Quintero. Vuoso beat the defense and had a go but his shot was later stopped by a defender.
Santos had woken up and two minutes later they would score.
Ivan Estrada carried the ball through the right flank. He crossed the ball into an open Walter Jimenez. Jimenez had a first time shot as he sent it hard and low. Oscar Perez looked beat the whole way as Santos took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute.
Jaguares still kept insisting in attack but no one wanted to shoot at goal.
Oribe Peralta was a prime example of Jaguares' inability to get a shot on goal. Peralta found himself with a rebounded ball with just Oswaldo Sanchez to beat, in the 35th minute. Peralta unloaded but his shot went wide of the mark as Jaguares missed yet another great chance.
Jaguares kept the pressure coming as Ezequiel Orozco was denied in the 41st minute. Orozco tried his luck from long distance but Sanchez made a tremendous save to keep his team ahead at the half.
Second Half
Jaguares started the second half just like they did the first, by missing chances.
Oribe Peralta won the ball inside the box thanks to hand in the 47th minute. Peralta shot towards goal but Sanchez stopped it. Peralta recovered the rebound and shot again but the ball went over the bar this time. Thankfully for Peralta the referee called it back for the hand he committed earlier.
Jaguares' hunger for goal would pay off in the 50th minute.
Ezequiel Orozco had a magnificent play down the left flank. Orozco crossed the ball into the box to an awaiting Danilo Veron Barrios. Danilinho only had to tap the the ball in for Jaguares' tying goal.
Jaguares tied the game and their thirst for a win at home prompted more oppertunities.
Once again Oribe Peralta missed a golden chance, this time in the 55th minute. Peralta headed the ball towards goal after a cross. Sanchez reached out and swatted the ball away.
Jaguares could have been putting a football clinic but Peralta was missing everything.
In the 67th minute Yasser Corona had a great chance for Jaguares but sent it wide of the goal. In the 71 st minute Orozco also had a chance but hit wide as well.
Santos finally built an attack in the 88th minute. Ivan Estrada tried it from outside the box but his shot goes just over the bar.
