Diego Maradona has demanded that his former bitter club rivals, River Plate, apologize for a degrading statement made by their vice-president, Julio Manchi.

Manchi had requested that the Argentine national team coach undergo a psychological check-up to assess his mental health and his capacity to lead the Albiceleste.

Maradona has now made a swift response via his lawyer, Hector Leguizamon, who told television station TyC Sports, “The truth is that Diego is not surprised at all by the declarations made by the River directors. We are asking the club to retract their comments and we will send an official letter to them in the afternoon.”

The lawyer went on to add, “Maradona does not have any problems undergoing the examination, so long as [River president] Jose Maria Aguilar and the rest of his board members do the same.”

The letter will demand 'Los Millonarios' make a public apology within the next 48 hours, or Maradona will initiate legal action.

It is believed that the feud started earlier this month following Argentina’s narrow 1-0 win over Colombia in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, when Maradona had complained about the condition of the football pitch at River’s Estadio Monumental where the match was held.
