Speaking informally to the Bulgarian media at the weekend, Spurs ace Dimitar Berbatov has apparently set his sights on a move away from White Hart Lane at the season’s end.

Berbatov was firstly quoted as saying that being Bulgarian has hampered his worldwide profile, despite his prolific goalscoring record.

“I am proud of my nationality although sometimes, when I am having a drink with my friends, we speculate on how much more famous I would be if I were an Englishman or an Italian, for instance,” he admitted.

“It's not easy to be a Bulgarian, but it's an interesting experience. Although I earn my bread abroad, I feel best at home in Bulgaria.”

When asked what he thought of the sketchy statistic that Tottenham have won a chunk of their major honours in years ending in ‘1’, Berba insisted that he couldn’t wait until 2011 for more silverware.

In fact, the publication quotes the hitman as saying that he’s ready to move on in the search of more frequent success.

“I don't have so much time. By [2011] I'll probably have given up football! I have read the statistics, but this year we won the League Cup and thus we refuted it, right?

“This was a great match at the Wembley Stadium and I'll never forget it. Not only did we defeat Chelsea, but I also scored a goal. I hope there will be more moments like that in my career.

“At the end of the season, I'll have talks with the management of Tottenham about my possible transfer.”

Reportedly, the forward is currently caught somewhere between a £25m move to La Liga and a bumper £90,000-a-week stay in London. Either way, he’s clearly raking in the dough, but insists he’s been investing wisely.

“Now I am investing in my future. I play football so that one day, when I give up football, I'd be able to work for pleasure not for money and my family will be wealthy enough.”
