David Moyes has praised his striker Louis Saha for revitalizing his career with Everton, after an injury-plagued stint with Manchester United saw him in no-man's land.
Saha returns to Old Trafford on Saturday night for the first time, and his manager has said that whilst picking up the Frenchman 18 months ago was a risk, the former Fulham star has now become an integral part of the team.
Moyes told the Liverpool Daily Post: “We took a gamble on Louis, undoubtedly. He had been injury-prone but as well as that we had a situation where we had to take a gamble because we didn’t have any money to buy a center forward.
“Louis at that time was available and it was a risk, not because of his ability but because of his injuries. We had to decide whether it was an ongoing problem at this stage of his career and Louis convinced me that it wasn’t, and he’s gone on to prove that.”
Moyes added that Saha has been able to hit his peak fitness, whilst avoiding the treatment room to a much greater degree.
The Scot said: “He’s a highly-strung athlete who wants to be at his best, wants to feel his best, and because of that sometimes he doesn’t quite make it for games but he’s been very good for us.
“I don’t think he’s got anything to prove. He’s played World Cup semi-finals and he’s been a top player who got a transfer to Manchester United. I think he would like to turn around and say he isn’t injury-prone and he’s over his injury problems now.”
