Claudio Ranieri has underlined his ambition to finish with a top-four place in Serie A, despite Roma's struggles.

With Francesco Totti injured, and having lost twice in a row in the league, including the shock loss to Livorno at the weekend, things are looking tough for the Lupi.

However, Ranieri is determined to silence the critics. He can see a rosy future if the team follows his ethic of hard work.

"The league is still long and it's obvious I would settle for a fourth place finish now," Ranieri told the press.

"I prefer to fight for it until the end. There are difficulties and I accept my responsibilities.

"I knew it would be difficult before coming here. But we have to work, work, work and give something more."

The Roman coach is hoping his side grasp the nettle of reform against Udinese. The two teams meet on Wednesday night at the Stadio Friuli and he has asked for a strong performance.

"We have to give our maximum this year. I don't like taking the fans for a ride. Every game has to be played at maximum level with the spirit of sacrifice," concluded the tactician.
