How to watch today's New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes NHL Playoffs First Round Game 4: Live stream, TV channel, and start time

The Carolina Hurricanes (3-0) take on the New York Islanders (0-3) on Saturday afternoon at UBS Arena in the fourth game of their NHL playoff series, a repeat of the Eastern Conference First Round Playoffs from last spring.

The Hurricanes moved within a win from progressing to the second round of the playoffs by defeating the Islanders 3-2 in New York on Thursday evening. The Islanders have been competitive in this series, but have nothing but a 0-3 deficit to show for it.

Carolina took the first two games of the series at home, including the remarkable Game 2 comeback where they came from 3-1 down with under ten minutes left on the clock to win 5-3.

The Islanders had a chance to stay in the series in Game 3, but the Hurricanes came out of the blocks red-hot. In the first period, they would score twice, with goals from Brent Burns and Dmitry Orlove to take the 2-0 lead. In the second, Pierre Engvall cut the deficit to one goal, but Sebastian Aho quickly doubled it to make it 3-1.

Brock Nelson got it back to within a goal heading into the third, but their scoring spree stopped as they lost 3-2. The Islanders must win the next three games to keep this series alive.

New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Team News & Key Leaders

New York Islanders

Scott Mayfield is the only long-term absentee, ruled out for the rest of the season with a lower-body injury.

The likes of Mathew Barzal and Brock Nelson need to take on greater responsibility. Barzal led the team in points in the regular season with 23 goals and 57 assists, giving him 80 points. In the playoffs, though, he has just one assist and has not recorded a point on the power play.

Nelson led the team with 34 goals in the regular season with 35 assists. In the playoffs, he has dished just one goal and one assist.

The Islanders also need better goaltending. They moved to Ilya Sorokin in Game 3, and he gave up three goals from 14 shots in 27:14 before being pulled. Semyon Varlamov stepped back in and stopped all eight shots. Still, he struggled in Game 2, stopping 34 of 38 shots in the loss. Both goalies have underperformed in the playoffs.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes played without defenseman Brett Pesce, who suffered a lower-body injury in Game 2.

Like in the regular season, Sebastian Aho (36 goals, 56 assists) has been in splendid form for the Hurricanes. He has two goals and an assist in three games so far.

Moreover, the Hurricanes trade deadline moves are paying off in the playoffs. Jake Guentzel has scored a goal and dished two assists this postseason, with one assist on the power play. Meanwhile, Evgeny Kuznetsov has a goal and an assist in his three games, with the goal coming on the power play.

Frederik Andersen's goaltending has been on point so far, limiting New York to three goals or less in the first three games.

Head-to-Head Record

The two teams split the four games they played in the regular season, with Carolina failing to win either game played at home.
