After recent reports that Fiorentina had been eyeing a swoop for Groningen’s Marcus Berg, it now appears the Viola will not be moving for the Sweden U21 star as they look to make more pressing reinforcements in midfield.

According to fcgroningen.nl, Fiorentina’s sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has recently declared his club will not be making any advances for the player, especially in view of his €10m price tag.

“We had a number of scouts following the European Under21 Championships, but Berg was not one of the players under examination,” Corvino declared.

“In attack we are well covered and right now we are in search of reinforcements for the midfield.”
