It proved to be a very fruitful evening for Lazio on Thursday, as club patron Claudio Lotito took one step to closing two deals within the space of a few hours.

According to cittaceleste.it, Lotito has managed to seal a verbal agreement with former Inter striker Julio Cruz, who is expected to sign with the Aquile on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, it now seems that Lazio have gone some way to bolstering their defence with the reported signing of Trelleborg’s Rasmus Bengtsson. The Swedish stopper was one of the stars of the recent European U-21 Championship, and had been on the radar of a number of clubs including Sevilla, Hamburg, AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven.

The 23-year-old is set to net a five-year deal with the Italians, and he is expected to undergo his medical at Formello on Friday. With coach Davide Ballardini set to name his squad for next week’s Italian Super Cup final, the Swede could be set to make his debut for the Biancocelesti sooner than expected.

Following the sale of David Rozehnal to Hamburg for €4 million, Lotito’s latest signing could prove a bargain, with Lazio reported to have only paid €400,000 for Bengtsson.
