Roma have stepped in to quash reports that have suggested that Francesco Totti needs surgery.

On Friday, the Giallorossi captain had tests on his right knee with Professor Mariani at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome. The visit was in relation to Totti's knee problem, which had prevented him from training fully. The Italian appeared well and in good spirits following the tests, revealing that he wasn't thinking about surgery.

Roma have now moved in to give an update on the situation, and 'Er Pupone' requires nothing more than a therapeutic rehabilitation programme.

A statement on the club's official website reads, "Yesterday [Friday] Francesco Totti underwent a scheduled visit in which a therapeutic programme was established for him to follow.

"Following the visit, the player went to work in the gym and he followed that up with a run on the pitch. His condition will be analysed over the coming days."

Roma welcome Livorno to the Olimpico on Sunday, but their talisman is unlikely to play.
