Fiorentina splashed out €12 million to sign Vargas from Catania in the summer of 2007, but the 26-year-old struggled to leave a mark on the Gigliati’s campaign last year.
However, the tide has definitely turned this term and the jeers coming from the Curva Fiesole of the Stadio Franchi have ultimately turned into chants for the powerful left-back who is now hoping to make up for lost time.
“I am pleased and I want to thank the supporters,” Vargas told Radioblu.
“It’s an important gesture and that’s why I want to do well in every game. And I also want to thank the club, the coach and my team-mates who have all awaited me.
“Now I think I am repaying their faith. Wherever I have played, I have always tried to do well for the team. [Catania director general Pietro] Lo Monaco had told me I would end up in a great team and that’s what Fiorentina are.”
