Despite the claim by Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside that no knee-jerk decision will be made following a string of sub-par performances, Walter Zenga, 49, has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Gary Megson.

Zenga has managed a string of clubs in Europe, including Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade, Dinamo Bucharest and Palermo.

The former Italy goalkeeper is now being tipped by The Mirror to succeed Megson.

A source close to Zenga is reported to have said: "Zenga has been approached by Bolton and knowing him well, he is very open to the idea.

"He speaks seven languages, including English, and has lived in many countries.

"England will be no problem for him."

Zenga was relieved of his duties at Palermo on Monday.
