An early own goal and a late Maxi Rodriguez strike sealed the victory for Atleti and afterwards Flores said it is important to carry the form into the league now.
"The feeling was good, I still have the same idea, the players are intelligent, we had control of the game, hit the woodwork twice, and two goals against a team that is difficult. It is a good result," he said, according to Marca.
"The players have the resources to reverse the situation. They've played well in each half, have made things interesting and played seriously, giving few opportunities at goal away. I like that they are smart, they know what to do, not allowing the counterattacks. The first test went very well. Now we must switch to the league."
Atleti face a trip to San Mames to take on Athletic Bilbao in the league this Saturday.
