On-loan Valencia midfielder, Ever Banega, has declared his desire to stay with Atletico Madrid after his current deal expires.

The Argentine has been on a season long loan in the Spanish capital and Atletico have an option to purchase the youngster in the summer.

After some less than convincing performances though, it is not known if the club will wish to sign the player on a permanent basis.

Speaking to the official Atletico Madrid website, Banega spoke about his wish to remain with los Colchoneros.

"Nobody at Atletico Madrid has told me whether the club will exercise the option to sign me or not. Yes, I would like to stay...When I arrived I did so with the desire to do things well and stay here, and that is what I wish," he explained.

"It would hurt me if Atletico Madrid did not decide to sign me because as I say I want to stay here. If it doesn't happen then I will try to succeed in another team, but I repeat that Atletico are a big team and I want to stay."

Banega has yet to establish himself as a first team player under either Javier Aguirre or Abel Resino and with Ignacio Camacho coming through the ranks, he is likely to find it hard to cement his place in the starting XI.

However, he revealed that he is ready to wait for his chances and that he will take advantage of them when they come.

"Everyone likes to start but whenever I play I always try to give my all. One always wants to be prominent. Javier Aguirre and Abel Resino have given me chances; some I have taken advantage of, some not," he said.

"I would like more chances. Certainly I had some, but then I was sent off, and suspended, so I cannot complain. Now I will try to take advantage of the minutes so I get to play more."

Next up for the Argentine and Atletico is a trip to the Riazor to take on Deportivo La Coruna, where they need to pick up three points.

"After a game the page is turned and we have been thinking about Deportivo since Monday. It is a very important match for us and we need to win it to put some pressure on the teams ahead of us and move closer to fourth," he mused.
