Valencia are set to consider an appeal against David Villa's two-match ban from European competition, following his dismissal in the Europa League tie with Slavia Prague earlier this month.

El Guaje was sent off not long after coming on as a second half substitute in the 1-1 draw against the Czech's, when he kicked out at Benjamin Vomacka after been fouled by the defender.

The two-game suspension means he will miss next week's trip to Czech Republic to take on Slavia Prague and the home tie against current group leaders Lille later in November.

Club spokesman Jordi Bruixola confirmed the notice of the ban from UEFA and said that the club view the suspension as harsh, and that they are considering their options before deciding on whether to appeal, as appeals against European bans are rarely successful.

"We will study the penalty and see if there is any possibility of appeal. We know that there is a great difficulty [succeeding with the appeal] though, because the governing body does not usually change decisions made by referees in European competitions," Bruixola said, according to Super Deporte.

"We believe [the suspension] is excessive because it was a very mild action [from Villa]."
