Uzbekistan qualified for the 2011 Asian Cup on
Wednesday evening with a 3-1 win over Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
The victory comes on the back of a win by the same scoreline over the same team in Tashkent four days earlier.
In a three-team group, Uzbekistan have a 100% record with three wins from three matches.
Anvar Gafurov opened the scoring three minutes after the half-hour, heading home Timur Kapadze’s corner and just before the hour Bakhodir Nasimov doubled the Uzbeks’ lead.
Baddrol Bakhtiar put the hosts back in the game with 17 minutes remaining but the comeback was short-lived as Kapadze struck almost immediately to restore the Central Asians’ lead and send the team to Qatar.
Malaysia have now lost all three of their matches in the group but are still in with a mathematical chance of qualification though the Tigers must win in UAE in January to have any chance.
