Thailand’s road to the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar has just
become a little more complicated after a 1-0 defeat at home to Singapore.
The loss in Bangkok comes just four days after Thailand won 3-1 in Singapore.
Aleksander Duric’s first half goal puts Singapore back in second place in the group with two games left to play while Thailand slip into third with a point less.
Singapore had their moments of danger but most of the running was made by Bryan Robson’s men but the hosts were unable to take advantage of their possession.
Robson was left to rue Thailand’s defensive lapse.
'We knew all about Singapore's set pieces. We spoke about it and worked on it in training. On the goal, our marking was wrong,'' said the former England captain to the Bangkok Post.
"I'm a bit disappointed about the goal we conceded. That game should have been 0-0."
"I have to give credit to them but we should have done better. We did not underestimate them. We lost because we lost concentration and our marking was not good," he said.
Now Thailand have to defeat Jordan in their next match to get their campaign back on track.
"I feel that the squad we've got is capable of getting good results. We still have a good chance," he said.
"We will meet Jordan in January and we must get all three points."
