German side Wolfsburg qualified for next term’s Champions League by winning their first Bundesliga title in history and they’re certainly not planning to be pushovers at top level as several summer swoops are planned, including one for Bayern Munich forward Luca Toni.

They completed the transfer of Danish midfielder Thomas Kahlenberg from Auxerre last week and also extended the contracts of several of their key players.

However, their biggest coup has yet to come if a report in Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung is to be believed. The local newspaper claims that the Bundesliga champions are considering making a move for Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni.

The Italian international appears to be surplus to requirements at the Bavarian side following the transfer of highly-rated attacker Mario Gomez from Stuttgart. Nevertheless, the German giants have so far denied that Toni is no longer needed at Bayern.

The former Fiorentina star has continually been linked with a return to Italy, with Milan reportedly keeping tabs on him. However, the 32-year-old could now be tempted to stay in Germany in order to join the new champions.

Additionally, the report suggests that Wolfsburg are also closely monitoring the situation of Tim Borowski and Hamit Altintop at Bayern. The former is mainly warming the bench at the German giants, while Altintop reportedly wants a new challenge.
