Stuttgart team doctor Raymond Best has successfully operated on the right hand of central defender Matthieu Delpierre, according to the club's official website. The French defender broke a metacarpal during last week's Champions League clash with Sevilla.

Delpierre was able to play the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach last weekend wearing a special carbon splint.

However, in a fall during the game, the broken bone dislocated further and the medical department made the decision to operate as a result. The bone was subsequently fastened using three screws.

The 28-year-old Frenchman will reduce his work-out schedule to jogging but hopes to return to full team training next week.

Delpierre expects to be able to play in the Bundesliga against Hertha a week on Saturday, again wearing his carbon splint.
