The Croatian international picked up an ankle injury in the league win against Hertha Berlin back in October and underwent surgery shortly after. The 28-year-old had been sidelined since.
Petric returned to the training pitch on Thursday, but the former Borussia Dortmund star made it clear that a return to match action is still far away.
"I am delighted to be back on the pitch. It feels really good to touch a ball again. However, my right foot still hurts a bit. That's not a surprise though, as I haven't used several muscles for a while," Petric told Bild.
"I really feel that I have been out of action for a while. I will not be pressured into a quick return. I want to be 100 per cent fit before I return to match action."
