Orlando Pirates Coach Ruud Krol Explains Gert Schalkwyk Situation
Former Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Gert Schalkwyk will need to do more if he is to see action in Orlando Pirates’ line-up this season.

Questioned about the Free State-born midfielder’s lack of playing time
since arriving at the Parktown North outfit, despite injury to some of
Bucs’ key players, coach Ruud Krol was forthright in his explanation.
“You are asking me why he has not been playing? He is not playing because there are other players who are better than him and that’s why I prefer them ahead of Schalkwyk,” he said.
Speaking to KickOff.com after Pirates were beaten 2-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns in a PSL (Premier Soccer League) game at Super Stadium on Wednesday, the Dutch mentor blamed his defence for lacking concentration.
“We were sleeping at the start of the game and failed to defend an easy goal," he complained.
“There was no aggression, no movement and we gave them a lot of space. You cannot do that against a team like Sundowns,” he added before dashing to the change rooms without answering further questions from journalists at the stadium.
