The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has released a list of 23
players which Hassan Moumen and the rest of the team’s technical staff have
selected to take part in the make-or-break World Cup qualifier against Togo on September 6.
The squad is not radically different from the one that tied the Democratic Republic of Congo two weeks ago in Rabat; however, one of the biggest surprises has to be the incorporation of Abdessalam Benjelloun at the expense of the in-form Nabil Baha.
Meanwhile, other call-ups that have baffled analysts and supporters alike are that of Amine Erbati, who is currently without a club and far from his best shape, as well as the recall of Youssef Safri despite his reputation for causing tension within the team - his training ground bust-up with Adel Taarabt prior to their first qualifier being a prime example.
Here is the team in full:
Goalkeepers: Karim Fegrouch (Wydad Casablanca), Nadir Lamyaghri (Wydad Casablanca), Khalid Askri (FAR Rabat)
Defenders: Jamal Alioui (FC Sion), Aissam El Adoua (Lens), Mehdi Amine El Moutaoui (Clerment Foot), Amine Erbati (Al Wahda), Hicham Mahdoufi (Olympique Khouribga), Abdessalam Ouaddou (Nancy), Mohamed Oulhaj (Raja Casablanca)
Midfielders: Mbark Boussoufa (RC Anderlecht), Karim El Ahmadi Aroussi (Feynoord Rotterdam), Rachid Hamdani (Clerment Foot), Houssine Kherja (Genoa), Youssef Safri (Qatari), Adil Taarabt (QPR), Jaouad Zairi (Olympiakos), Merouane Zemmama (Hibernian)
Strikers: Mustapha Allaoui (Guingamp), Abdessalam Benjelloun (Hebernian), Marouane Chamakh (Bordeaux), Mounir El Hamdaoui (AZ Alkmar), Youssef Hadji (Nancy)
