Players

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Goalkeeper

Piet Velthuizen (Vitesse): The highly-rated goalkeeper put in a great performance against Twente, but was eventually unable to help his side to a good result. Velthuizen made a great save to deny Ronnie Stam in the second half, but could do nothing about Bryan Ruiz’s goal.

Defence

Paul Verhaegh (Vitesse): The experienced defender successfully coped with in-form winger Miroslav Stoch and was unlucky to be on the losing side. Verhaegh appears to be ready for the next step in his career and Vitesse will face a tough battle to hold on their captain.

Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord): Vlaar was able to cope with the threat of the Utrecht attacking line with ease, largely keeping promising youngster Ricky van Wolfswinkel at bay. The towering centre-back competed for every ball and was solid as a rock in the Feyenoord defence.

Toby Alderweireld (Ajax): The Belgian youngster was very strong in the air and kept in-form striker Michal Papadopulos at bay. Alderweireld hardly put a foot wrong throughout the game and provided the assist for Ajax’s second goal.

Vurnon Anita (Ajax): Outstanding display from the young Ajax defender. He set up De Zeeuw for his side’s opener in the 5-1 thrashing of Heerenveen and made some impressive runs forward. Never really troubled by the Heerenveen attackers in his defensive duties.

Defensive Midfield

Demy de Zeeuw (Ajax): The Dutch international helped Ajax to a comfortable 5-1 home win against Heerenveen with yet another commanding performance. De Zeeuw capped a fine game with a brace to help Ajax to a 2-0 lead.

Ibrahim Afellay (PSV):
Afellay was once again the key man for PSV in their victory against Heracles. The versatile midfielder produced some mazy dribbles, accurate passing and scored a fine goal to gift the Eindhoven side the lead seconds before the interval.

Attacking Midfield

Saidi (NEC): The speedy winger returned to the NEC starting XI after a lengthy dispute about his contract and justified his place emphatically. The attacker scored twice to help NEC in secure a point and was a constant threat with his runs down the right wing.

Keisuke Honda (VVV): The Japanese star once again demonstrated his ability to open up a defence with one brilliant move in the 5-0 win against Sparta. Honda was involved in both of Sandro Calabro’s goals and put in an excellent display.

Jeremain Lens (AZ): Lens was one of the best men on the pitch in AZ’s 4-2 away win against Roda. The versatile attacker went by his direct opponent like he was a puppet more than once and netted a brace to help the Dutch titleholders to the full three points.

Forward

Charlison Benschop (RKC):
The youngster played a major role in his side’s third win of the season. Benschop netted a brace and caused the Groningen defence all kinds of trouble with his opportunistic play.
