Lineups & Stats

It may have been a friendly tonight in Geneva, but no Swiss person will feel that John Carew is any friend of theirs after the Norway striker ended Switzerland's eleven-game unbeaten run.

It was a dreary scene in rain-soaked Switzerland, with not much to excite the sparse crowd besides Liverpool's Phillip Degen bringing Morten Gamst Pedersen to ground inside the Swiss box.

Aston Villa's Carew duly converted the awarded spot-kick three minutes into the second half, putting Norway in the lead and ultimately winning the game.

Tonight marked Switzerland's second loss since Ottmar Hitzfeld's was appointed head coach of the national side, losing before 2-1 to Luxembourg fourteen months ago.

Despite the friendly nature of tonight's game, the German boss will have plenty to think about as he prepares his side for the World Cup Finals in South Africa next year.
