It is still unclear whether the 22 year old forward’s future lies at the Allianz Arena or whether he will try his luck elsewhere as he searches for more regular football.
The decision however will have to wait as the German international focuses all his attention on the forthcoming Euro 2008 tournament in Austria/ Switzerland that kicks off on June 7th.
“I am concentrating fully on the European Championships. Only after that will I think about the future” he revealed.
“I have won titles at Bayern, but I have not played enough” he told Sportbild.
Podolski admits he has already spoken with new Bayern trainer Jürgen Klinsmann and described the discussions as “positive”.
“Jürgen has explained to me what he plans, and that is important because of late I have been far from happy” he said.
He does however feel that an improvement in his playing chances could be on the horizon. “Next season all the strikers will have the same chance under the new trainer. Everyone starts from zero, and no-one is guaranteed a place.”
His opportunities this season have been limited with Bayern with Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose both ahead of him in the pecking order. He made a total of eight starts this season with a further 17 substitute appearances. He scored five times.
Poldi is also hopeful that he can secure a starting place in Joachim Löw’s German side during the upcoming Euro 2008 tournament.
“I’m going to the tournament to play, not just to go on holiday” Podolski vowed.
