In-form Napoli only scraped a goalless draw at second-from-bottom Catania yesterday and goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis has paid tribute to the struggling Etnei.

“We must acknowledge that Catania turned in a great performance,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the encounter.

“They played very well and attacked us from the first to the final whistle. I read that Catania were not picking up the points they deserved and I could see it for myself here.”

Napoli are still undefeated under new boss Walter Mazzarri and had been tipped to roll over the Sicilian minnows after their heroics at Juventus last weekend.

“It was certainly a step back for us,” sighed the ex-Udinese man.

“But we take this point and hang on to it. We will face another difficult test in a fortnight and we will have five more games before the Christmas break to secure vital points and really turn around our season.”

Napoli are back in action after the international break when they welcome Lazio to the San Paolo.
