Nurdin Bakari's strike gave defending
champions Young Africans maximum points when they beat Moro United
1-0 in the Premier League over the weekend.
Young Africans, who were forced to a 1-1 draw by Azam last weekend, sent forward a series of attacking waves early on but had to wait until the 32 minutes to change the score.
The Jangwani Street boys are now placed second with 18 points, trailing behind the league leaders Simba by nine points.
As a dress rehearsal for the Saturday derby, Simba beat Azam 1-0.
The blistering Msimbazi Street giants have set a record of nine wins out of nine since the league kicked off in August.
Aggrey Morris netted an own goal after 11 minutes to register Simba’s winning strike. He was attempting to clear Emmanuel Okwi’s flick header from Hilary Echesa’s corner kick.
For Simba, the win was a perfect morale booster ahead of their clash against archrivals Young Africans at the National Stadium next Saturday.
Patrick Phiri praised his lads for yet another record breaking victory. He told The Citizen that more records are to come and their match against Yanga is not an exception.
“We are targeting the next three points from Yanga,” he said.
Azam coach Itamar Amjpurin said his team played well but were unlucky. “We deserved at least a point,” he said.
