The former Arsenal man has not had the best of seasons with Spurs, and is now looking for a summer transfer to end his spell with the club.
Villa are reportedly interested in signing the 24-year-old, and a transfer is set to be completed by July 1.
A deal involving Bentley was rumoured to be in the pipeline yesterday, with Jermaine Jenas and Bentley being swapped for Villa's attacking winger Ashley Young.
However, this deal shows no signs of developing as Villa boss Martin O'Neill is unwilling to let go of Young.
A separate deal for Bentley, however, may be the outcome in the summer transfer window.
Spurs paid Blackburn Rovers £15 million for the England international's services last summer, but after the sacking of former boss Juande Ramos, the 24-year-old has found his opportunities limited under Harry Redknapp.
The former Gunner made just 20 league appearances last season, scoring only once, with a volley against arch rivals Arsenal.
The reported fee that Spurs are asking for is thought to be around the £10 million mark, but they may settle for slightly less in order to reduce their massive wage bill.
