Burnley have enjoyed a productive week in the transfer market, with manager Owen Coyle snapping up a trio of players to help boost the club's bid for Premier League survival next season.

Canadian defender David Edgar joined yesterday from Newcastle United, adding to the captures earlier in the week of right-back Tyrone Mears from Derby County and highly-rated Scottish international striker Steven Fletcher from Hibernian.

The fact that all are young players, with only Mears having Premier League experience, does not perturb the Scottish-born former Republic of Ireland international though, who claims that the ambition of youth will prove beneficial to the club.

"I'm confident in the players I've got, that they're going to acquit themselves with credit, I believe, and show everybody that they can play," he told Sky Sports News.

"We believe in what we're trying to do in the big scheme of things, and it's not about a quick fix. Again, it's another player at 22 [Fletcher] who will continue to grow with us.

"Hopefully, year after year, we're trying to put a better team on the park, and that's the plan. It would be very easy to go for the quick fix of experienced, seasoned Premier League players. It might serve us well for a year.

"But then we're back to square one. So we've decided to go down the route of trying to build a young team that will serve the club well for years to come, and Steven Fletcher ticks every box for what we're trying to do at Burnley Football Club."
