Manchester City manager Mark Hughes believes that Craig Bellamy has never played better in his entire career than he is currently doing.

Hughes feels that Bellamy has never let him down whenever he has worked with him and brings a galvanising presence to the dressing room.

City travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime, and the Citizens boss thinks Bellamy will be keen to show Reds fans his true quality after his own disappointing spell on Merseyside.

"Every time I have been involved with Craig, he has produced," Hughes told his Friday press conference.

"From our point of view, that is fantastic because, arguably, he is playing some of the best football he has ever produced.

"He knows he has a platform and the players around him that would allow him to be as successful as he knows he can be.

"Craig left Blackburn Rovers because he wanted to be successful and win trophies. When he left Liverpool maybe he hadn't quite fulfilled the ambition that he had.

"This is another opportunity and you sense it is one he does not want to let pass him by.

"Craig is a big influence in the dressing room," he reflected.

"But he also has a very demanding personality and, more often than not, he will say things that are incorrect.

"What you have to remember is that he doesn't bear grudges.

"When people react to what he says too quickly, it can escalate. But he has people around him now that understand him.

"When he reacts in an adverse way it is nipped in the bud very quickly. I think he is grateful for that."

Hughes also confirmed that often-controversial forward Robinho would be included in the squad for Saturday's game, though it was unlikely he would start after a lengthy lay-off with a stress fracture of the leg.

"He is back training with the group, which is pleasing from everyone's point of view," the manager added.

"He is travelling with us and we will make a decision tomorrow.

"It could be a bit early for him to be involved, but certainly he will be in the frame for next week's game against Hull City."
