Marseille President Pape Diouf Could Follow Eric Gerets Out
L’Oheme’s problems may not be over just yet as reports emerge that their president could also quit the club.

Following the shock end-of-season resignation announcement of coach Eric Gerets, Olympique Marseille could be about to lose their influential president, Pape Diouf.
French media believe that the 57-year-old former journalist, who brought Gerets to the Stade Velodrome and initiated a project to take Les Phoceens back to the pinnacle of French football, could tender his resignation in the next few days, five years after his arrival.
Diouf is reportedly baffled by and unhappy with club owner Robert-Louis Dreyfus’ decision not to renew Gerets’ contract, which was set to have expired in June, despite the Belgian trainer taking OM to the verge of their first Ligue 1 title since 1992 this season.
Diouf and Dreyfus had long been at loggerheads over the coach’s contract situation and the president had repeatedly pleaded with the owner to make an economic effort to retain the services of the ‘Lion of Rekem’. And having lost the battle, Diouf could now be ready to head for the exit door.
Marseille currently lead the standings with a five-point buffer over Girondins Bordeaux with five rounds to go, although their rivals have a game in hand.
