Olympique Lyonnais president, Jean-Michel Aulas, has been accused of having an influence on referee Freddy Fautrel’s performance in Sunday’s fixture against Paris Saint-Germain,by an anonymous foreign official.

L’Equipe revealed on Wednesday that Aulas had talked to the arbitrator at half-time and had apologised for the conduct of assistant coach Joel Bats, who was sent to the stands after protesting too vehemently against Ludovic Giuly’s opening goal for PSG, which he felt was offside. In addition, the Parisian-based sportspaper also suggested that the two men talked alone in the referee’s room briefly at the interval.

The second half brought with it a late equaliser for OL, scored by Bafetimbi Gomis from a position that television replays showed to be offside.

An unnamed foreign official has spoke to Le Parisien about this act, which he believes had an influence on Fautrel’s performance after the break.

“Pressure has been voluntary or involuntary, and it would seem to have played on the assistant [referee],” the referee said.

Lyon were accused of pressuring matchday officials on several occasions last season, and it seems that this term will be laced with similar controversy.

Les Gones are presently second in Ligue 1, two points behind leaders and defending champions Girondins de Bordeaux.
