Benfica had announced last month that they would retain the services of coach Quique Sanchez Flores.

But the Eagles have since made a U-turn on their decision after reaching an agreement with the 44-year-old to terminate his contract, which runs until June 2010.

The club released an official statement, which read, “Enrique Sanchez Flores and his technical team have reached, in principle, an accord to mutually revoke their contract which bonded them until the end of the 2009-10 season.”

The Lisbon side also revealed that the “definitive agreement” will soon be confirmed, while Portuguese media believe that Sporting Braga’s Jorge Jesus will succeed the Spaniard.

Flores started his senior coaching career at Getafe in 2004, before joining Valencia a year later. He was snapped up by Benfica last summer and managed to guide the side to a third-placed finish in the Liga as well as winning the Carlsberg League Cup.
