Alcacer: ‘A bit of everything’ contributing to sparking form

Paco Alcacer attributes his recent sterling run of form to multiple factors, including confidence and hard work.

The forward moved on loan to Borussia Dortmund after a pair of frustrating seasons at Barcelona, where he found opportunities to start limited.

Alcacer has taken to life in the Bundesliga well, having scored six times in the league already for his new side, just four less than his total La Liga output in the last two seasons.

That Dortmund tally includes a hat-trick against Augsburg in the match prior to the current international break.

Alcacer has continued his fine form into the international window, scoring twice for Spain against Wales on Thursday to make it four straight games in all competitions with a goal, and five of his last six.

When asked about his recent success, Alcacer did not attribute it to one specific factor, indicating a number of things have contributed to his sparkling performances of late.

"It's a bit of everything: a [good] streak, confidence, having minutes and, above all, working every day when you do not play to be able to be well when you return,” Alcacer told Teledeporte.

Alcacer netted the first and third goals of Spain’s 4-1 friendly win over Wales, with Sergio Ramos and Marc Bartra picking up the others before a late Sam Vokes goal spoiled the clean sheet.

The forward was very complimentary of his team-mates and how they provide for the strikers, crediting the whole side for the offensive output.

"It has been a very good match for the whole group, except for the last goal they have scored,” Alcacer said. “But the truth is that I am very happy to help the team with what they demand from the strikers, which are the goals, although I always say they belong to the whole team.”

Spain head coach Luis Enrique praised the confidence of his forwards and singled out Alcacer following the victory over Wales.

The forward is grateful for the praise, but understands he must continue to perform if he wishes to receive further opportunities with Spain.

"What he said motivates anyone, but we must continue in this dynamic to be able to return to the national team".
