Enugu Rangers extend lead at the top of their NPFL group after narrow win over MFM

Enugu Rangers 1-0 MFM FC

Enugu Rangers got their revenge over MFM in their Matchday 16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) tie as they beat Olukoya Boys 1-0 on Sunday.

Seka Pascal who has been massive for the Flying Antelopes especially in their last five games got the only goal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe.

The Ivorian star hit the back of the net in the 36th minute after receiving a defence-splitting pass from his petite teammate Ajani Ibrahim.

Rangers whose only defeat this season in the league was against MFM now have 31 points from 14 games with two matches still outstanding.

Lobi Stars 0-0 Enyimba

Enyimba have extended their unbeaten run in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to 10 games after they forced Lobi Stars to a barren draw in Markurdi on Sunday.

The Pride of Benue had scooped important away points in Lagos and Enugu against MFM and Rangers respectively before Sunday’s encounter.

While many expected the reigning champions to build on those impressive results, they could not make their home advantage count against the People’s Elephant and thus settled for one point in this fiercely contested tie.

Kwara United 0-0 Bendel Insurance

Kwara United’s desperate move to beat the drop in NPFL this season suffered a setback on Sunday, as the Harmony Boys played out a disappointing barren draw against Insurance in Ilorin.

Both Kwara United and Insurance are hovering around the relegation zone and would have cherished maximum points but having fired blanks in 90 minutes they would have to make do with the solitary point they could get.

While the Harmony Boys are second from 9th on the log in Group A with 19 points from 16 games, Insurance are just behind in 10th place with 18 points, albeit with a game less.

Remo Stars 0-0 Niger Tornadoes

Remo Stars poor run at their home ground at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu continued as they were held to a scoreless draw by fellow relegation battlers Niger Tornadoes.

The Sky Blue Stars have just three victories all season and have been one of the poorest teams so it's no surprise that they're at the bottom of the table.

Coach Kennedy Boboye's tutored side tried hard to get a win over the Ikon Allah Boys in Sunday’s tie, but ultimately they failed in their bid.

Remo Stars have 14 points from 16 games and are increasingly looking like a sure bet to drop out of the group at the end of the season.

Tornadoes have the same points from 16 games but are second from bottom due to their superior goal difference.

Rivers United FC 1-1 Sunshine Stars

A 10-man Rivers United team was held to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.

After firing blanks in the first half, Ossy Martins gave the Garden City team the lead in the 69th minute but Ajibola Otegbeye ensured that the points were shared as he scored in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot.

Both Sunshine Stars and Rivers United have amassed 20 points so far but the Owena Whales are in 6th position while Stanley Eguma’s side are 7th.

Wikki Tourist 1-0 Katsina United

Wikki Tourist continued their steady rise on the log in the NPFL Group A with a lone goal victory over Katsina United at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.

Hassan Musa scored the all-important goal for the Giant Elephant's in the 66th minute because three points from Sunday’s game had momentarily taken Wikki out of the relegation zone.

The Bauchi state team are presently 9th on the log with 19 points from 15 games while Katsina have 21 points from 15 games and are in 5th position.
