Metz’s Mamadou Fofana opens Mali’s goal account in Burundi stalemate

Metz defender Mamadou Fofana scored his first international for Mali in their 1-1 draw against Burundi in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

After settling for a goalless draw in their last outing against the central African team, the Eagles conceded an early goal in Bujumbura.

But Fofana’s 72nd-minute goal cancelled out Fiston Abdul Razak’s opener as Mohamed Magassouba's side maintain their unbeaten run in Group C.

The 20-year-old who joined Metz from Alanyaspor in the summer made his debut for the Eagles against Cote d'Ivoire in October 2017.

Mali lead the pack with eight points from four games ahead of Gabon, Burundi and South Sudan.
