Mourinho issues positive update on former Man Utd boss Ferguson's condition

Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United are "confident" of Sir Alex Ferguson recovering from a brain hemorrhage.

Ferguson underwent emergency surgery on Saturday, and has remained in hospital since.

It has been reported that the legendary manager, who won a host of trophies during his 26-year tenure at Old Trafford, is awake in intensive care, and has spoken to his family, including Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson.

The 76-year-old has received support from a host of football's biggest names, including rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

And Mourinho has now issued a positive update on Ferguson's condition.

"His family ask for privacy and that's what I am going to respect," Mourinho said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"But we are positive, very positive. We are confident."

United midfielder Juan Mata has confirmed that he and his team-mates want to win the FA Cup for Ferguson.

Mourinho, however, does not feel that the Scot's condition will affect the club's preparation for Thursday's fixture with West Ham.

"I can only think that if there is any relation, it is a positive relation," he added.

The Red Devils take on the Hammers at London Stadium on Thursday before finishing their Premier League campaign with a home game on Sunday against Watford.

A win from either game will ensure that Mourinho's side finish second in the table ahead of Liverpool and Tottenham.

United then take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday, May 19 at Wembley.
