<p>Sir Alex has seen his <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/sir-alex-ferguson-axed-ineos-former-man-utd-boss-ambassador-contract-terminated-sir-jim-ratcliffe/blte782e70a6229b424#csc420d294d8e77cb8" target="_blank">multi-million pound contract to act as the club's global ambassador</a> ripped up this week by Manchester United part-owners INEOS as part of a continued cost-cutting drive at the club. The Scot is said to have stepped down from his role "amicably" and will retain a non-executive director position at Old Trafford.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>United's decision to cut Sir Alex from their payroll has been met with anger by some sections of the Manchester United support, who have been upset at the way INEOS have treated a man who won a host of titles including 13 league titles and two Champions League crowns with the Red Devils. Cantona, who was brought to the club by the Scot and acted as a catalyst for United's success under Sir Alex, has slammed the decision by United's owners.</p><p></p>
