The Red Devils could get the deal over the line quickly now that Dan Ashworth is in place as the club's <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/man-utd-confirm-dan-ashworth-appointment-sporting-director-newcastle-legal-dispute/blte8474a2392ea9096" target="_blank">sporting director following confirmation of his move from Newcastle this week</a>.

However, a section of Bayern fans are not happy about the likely transfer, as <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/bayern-munich-fans-try-stop-matthijs-de-ligt-man-utd-transfer-thousands-sign-petition-keep-defender/bltc53f92aebc712746" target="_blank">many signed a petition in an attempt to stop the centre-back from leaving</a>.

De Ligt is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/bayern-munich-harry-kane-bundesliga-players-for-sale/blt3d3e7b250d2ce514" target="_blank">one of six big names that the German giants have deemed sellable</a> this summer as they plot an overhaul of their squad after finishing last season without a trophy. De Ligt, who joined from Juventus in 2022, started 16 of his 22 Bundesliga appearances as Bayern finished third in the table last season. He also featured six times in the Champions League.
