The 2018-19 season has concluded and one of the busiest periods for a football club is now under way: the summer transfer window .
Clubs across the world will be doing business in the market, attempting to strengthen their squads ahead of the 2019-20 campaign and deals will be hammered out right up until deadline day.

This year, in England, the summer transfer window opened a little earlier - just a few days after the last Premier League match in mid May - with the windows of the other big leagues opening on June 1.<script type="application/json" data-placement="fcplayer-semantic">{"type":"fcplayer-semantic","data":{"embedCode":"//cdn.fcp.codes/embed-code-template/embed-code-template.js#SEMANTIC_5704afb8-c10b-4ba5-9cb4-d7fb6098ef90"}}</script>

With the rumour mill heating up, Goal takes a look at some of the biggest transfer targets.

From Pogba to Bale, Neymar to De Ligt: The top 50 summer transfer targets of 2019

Speculation swirled around Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld last summer, but, at the beginning of 2019, the Belgium international's contract with the club was extended until 2020.
Manchester United were reportedly very keen on the experienced centre-back and the Red Devils remain in the market for reinforcements in that area, but they will have to be willing to fork out around £25 million ($33m) if they wish to secure his services.

Arsenal have also been linked and, while he wouldn't be the first star to cross the north London divide, that destination seems less likely. He hinted that he could stay in the aftermath of Spurs' Champions League final defeat, but that will inevitably rely on various moving particles falling into place.

Toby Alderweireld | Tottenham | Defender

Despite scoring decisive goals in two Champions League final successes, Gareth Bale continues to cut a figure of isolation at Real Madrid.
The winger is close to completing six years in the Spanish capital, where he has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell, but rumours persist regarding his future in the team.

In response to rumours, his <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/bale-is-100-per-cent-committed-to-real-madrid-insists/15i0pncoi03ga17hkbenzbtvn0" target="_blank">agent insisted</a> that the player is "100 per cent committed" to Los Blancos, but a return to the Premier League seems increasingly likely, with both Tottenham and Manchester United being linked.

However, any move for Bale will be a costly one, with reports suggesting that Madrid's asking price is £113 million ($148m).

Midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko was a big-money signing for Chelsea in 2017, arriving from Monaco for a fee of £40 million ($52m), but he failed to live up to the hype and was subsequently sent out on loan to AC Milan.
The 24-year-old took some time to get going at San Siro too, but eventually found his groove, despite the Rossoneri ultimately missing out on Champions League qualification.

Chelsea's looming transfer ban means they may not be so inclined to allow talent to exit the club, but Milan are <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/milan-want-permanent-move-for-chelsea-midfielder-bakayoko/mkau5ka2l8pm1undui0esmt37" target="_blank">keen</a> to make the deal permanent. However, rivals Inter are also monitoring the situation, according to <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9152589/chelsea-tiemoue-bakayoko-inter/" target="_blank">reports</a>.

Leonardo Bonucci made a triumphant return to Juventus last season after enduring a difficult spell at AC Milan, so it would seem unlikely that he will leave again so soon.
However, Paris Saint-Germain are <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/psg-contact-bonucci-de-ligt-juventus-deal/1br5hhswm65ls18gqdhg9jshiv" target="_blank">willing to test the Bianconeri's resolve</a> on the matter as they seek to take advantage of the fact that Matthijs de Ligt could be on his way to Turin.

Algeria international Yacine Brahimi has emerged as a target for Premier League giants Arsenal after leaving Porto.
The 29-year-old, who has featured strongly for the Portuguese side in the Champions League in recent seasons, is available for free now that he is out of contract.

Brahimi enjoyed his best ever season with Porto last term, scoring 10 league goals in 32 appearances, and has previously attracted attention from a number of English clubs.

Fiorentina's Federico Chiesa is considered one of the brightest prospects in Serie A so it is no surprise to learn that he is on the radar of Juventus.
The forward, who has already earned senior caps with Italy, is reported to be valued in the region of €50 million (£43m/$56m) by La Viola and that price could potentially rise depending on the level of interest which gathers in the summer.

As well as Juve, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have been touted as possible destinations.

Continued speculation led Fiorentina to <a href="http://it.violachannel.tv/vc13-dettaglio-breaking/items/id-03-06-2019_13-15-39_nota-fiorentina-su-federico-chiesa.html" target="_blank">issue a statement</a> in June declaring that Chiesa is under contract with the club and is the 'symbol' around which the team will be built.

The astronomical rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a major blow to Nathaniel Clyne's chances of nailing down a permanent starting position for Liverpool and, unsurprisingly, the England international is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/west-ham-set-to-battle-bournemouth-for-permanent-clyne-deal/13y84neka71ik1bzbngotto5ft" target="_blank">set to leave Anfield</a> this summer in search of regular game time.
He went on loan to Bournemouth, who are keen to make the move a long-term arrangement, but Goal understands that he has <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/napoli-interested-in-signing-liverpools-15m-rated-full-back/ngx2cp4826kl1djj9bn0ao0bu" target="_blank">become a target</a> for Serie A outfit Napoli. West Ham are also interested. His asking price currently stands at around £15 million ($20m).

Nathaniel Clyne | Liverpool | Defender

Douglas Costa has not been thriving at Juventus since making the move to Italy from Bayern Munich and the most recent season has seen him hit headlines for the wrong reasons, having been suspended <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/costa-stung-with-four-match-ban-after-spitting-incident/18aan0947wkst16dy81an3no1h" target="_blank">for spitting at an opponent</a> during a game.
It is against that backdrop of frustration that the Brazil international finds himself heading for an exit from the club. He is reportedly on the radar of Premier League sides Tottenham and Manchester United, while Paris Saint-Germain is another possible destination.

When Philippe Coutinho arrived at Barcelona from Liverpool in 2018, the Brazil star was heralded as the replacement for Andres Iniesta, but it turns out that it was a heavy burden to bear.
His performances for the Catalan giants have left plenty to be desired and he has even had to contend with occupying a place on the bench for periods of this season.

He <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/coutinho-set-on-barcelona-stay-as-he-convinces-liga-champions-he-/ehom0a6w2cjz18abkczw50zze" target="_blank">could well end up remaining</a> at Camp Nou,&nbsp;but&nbsp;should he leave&nbsp;Barca will be desperate to recoup much of the €135 million (£116m/$150m) they spent on him.

Manchester United have been heavily linked, as have Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, with the Barcelona even <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/barcelona-expect-chelsea-bid-for-coutinho-as-camp-nou-board/16b75gm6w9s7j14lbu4jpl1pyt" target="_blank">preparing themselves for a bid from the London club</a> for the player.&nbsp;

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been forthright in his language regarding players at the club who will not be joining him on his journey towards success at Old Trafford and one of those individuals is Matteo Darmian.
The Italy international, who turned 29 last December, has struggled since joining the club from Torino in 2015 and is expected to return to Serie A to see out his career. Inter are believed to be leading the race for his signature and they could wrap up a deal for a reduced price.

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt is one of the most sought-after players in world football thanks to his performances in the Champions League and for the Netherlands.
Barcelona, who have already secured the services of De Ligt's compatriot Frenkie de Jong, appear to be <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/barcelona-still-trying-to-tempt-de-ligt-but-refuse-to/dv1lohwebqfj1bp4yatvf9lg8" target="_blank">leading the hunt</a>, but may have to fork out €85 million (£73m/$95m) - something they are slow to agree to.

Juventus are now his most likely destination as they seek successors to Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli, though Manchester City and Manchester United have also been linked. De Ligt <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/de-ligt-out-of-ajax-tour-squad-as-juventus-move-edges-closer/qf2lqgv1tx6v1hnzy22dfedzp" target="_blank">was left out of Ajax's pre-season squad</a>, increasing speculation that a move to Italy was imminent.

It is not so long ago that Paulo Dybala was being heralded as Argentina's successor to Lionel Messi, but the Juventus forward hasn't managed to live up to the hype.
While he enjoyed a sensational season on a personal level last term, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin appears to have had an impact and he has fallen short of reaching the tally of 22 Serie A goals that he posted in 2017-19.

Goal understands that <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/juventus-willing-to-consider-dybala-sale-but-have-no-offers/12dabwq67qgvt1tbfenbzwsw1q" target="_blank">Juve are very much open to selling Dybala</a>, who has drawn admiring glances from Manchester United, Inter, PSG and Barcelona in the past.

Veteran forward Edin Dzeko has enjoyed a fruitful number of seasons in front of goal for Roma since making the move from Manchester City in 2015.
However, his time in the Italian capital may be up this summer, with Inter reportedly keen on his services. Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund have also been linked.

Christian Eriksen has been a shining light for both Tottenham and Denmark over the course of the past four seasons in particular, but his time in north London could be set to end this summer.
Real Madrid have been linked with the playmaker, as have their Clasico rivals Barcelona, while Manchester United are also on the hunt for a player who can weave things together in the opposition half.

With Tottenham losing out in the final of the Champions League, the Dane is set for a period of reflection to determine whether or not his future is best served in north London.

Christian Eriksen | Tottenham | Midfielder

Having spent a number of seasons in Serie A with Udinese and Sampdoria, Portugal international Bruno Fernandes made the move home to Sporting in 2017. It was an inspired switch and the 24-year-old midfielder has been playing some of the best football of his career.
Indeed, his goalscoring exploits have reportedly caught the attention of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. A fee in the region of €50 million (£43m/$56m) and €70 million (£60m/$78m) will be needed to lure him away though.

He has also been linked with Manchester United, while reports in Portugal suggest that he would prefer a move to Liverpool.

Bruno Fernandes | Sporting | Midfielder

For a number of seasons Mauro Icardi has been Mr Inter, but the Argentine striker looks increasingly likely to leave San Siro this summer as relations with the club remain stagnant.
There is no shortage of suitors for Icardi, with Juventus, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all being linked, but his ultimate destination will depend largely on his agent and wife, Wanda Nara.

In April <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/we-will-be-here-again-next-year-nara-says-icardi-plans-inter/de71th607sfr14y3u001sqp65" target="_blank">Nara indicated</a> that "we will be here again next year" and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/icardi-aiming-to-stay-at-inter-at-least-another-year-amid/srihqkn2j12215dhc5t9owz9z" target="_blank">reiterated</a> that position in May, but speculation has continued to flow – especially after he returned to Italy after <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/icardi-to-miss-inters-pre-season-tour-as-he-leaves-training-camp-/yts43koz1womzxnzsbjkd6xc" target="_blank">departing his side's pre-season tour</a>.

Mauro Icardi | Inter | Forward

Isco's future at Real Madrid was in serious doubt when Santiago Solari became head coach and, while the return of Zinedine Zidane has improved things on that front, the midfielder still looks set to depart.
The Spain international, whose contract runs until 2022, is valued at around €60 million (£52m/$67m) and has been linked with a string of Europe's elite clubs.

Juventus have emerged as the most likely destination, but Manchester United and Chelsea are also said to be keen. Barcelona have been linked with him in the past, but the Blaugrana have moved on to other targets.

Isco | Real Madrid | Midfielder

Harry Kane has been, without doubt, one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League over the past few seasons and links with Real Madrid, which first arose a few years ago, are not going away.
The England international has struggled with injuries in 2018-19, but that has not diminished his appeal when it comes to clubs seeking proven goalscorers.

Former Madrid winger Steve McManaman <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/kane-in-bale-out-mcmanaman-doubts-tottenham-real-madrid/c4c4o4eli3jc1l8h7zybv6uy8" target="_blank">believes</a> that Kane would certainly succeed at the Santiago Bernabeu, but doubts that a move will happen.

However, Los Blancos are desperate to replace the goals scored by Cristiano Ronaldo and their current crop are not up to the task, so it would not come as much of a surprise if Kane ended up in Spain.

Harry Kane | Tottenham | Forward

N'Golo Kante has earned widespread plaudits for being one of the most accomplished defensive midfielders in the world, but the arrival of Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea has seen the France World Cup winner's role change.
Real Madrid and Manchester United have both been linked with Kante as they seek a world-class defensive midfielder, but the Blues have reportedly slapped a hefty price tag on their man in the region of £130 million ($170m), which may serve as a deterrent.

Manchester United did not get their man in last summer's transfer window, but they are expected to mount another pursuit in 2019.
Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly has developed into one of the best centre-backs in Europe, but he is believed to be valued at over £110 million ($145m).

Should United - or any other suitor - test Napoli's resolve with a bid of that magnitude, Carlo Ancelotti revealed that he and the club would not "block" any player who wants to leave.

Juventus have also been linked as they prepare for a defensive overhaul.

Kalidou Koulibaly | Napoli | Defender

James Maddison's first season in the Premier League saw him directly involved in 14 goals for Leicester, supplying seven assists for his team-mates and bagging seven himself.
The 22-year-old's form for the Foxes has earned plenty of plaudits and he is now firmly on the radar of a number of Premier League giants.

Manchester United are in the market for talented young players with experience who are adept in a variety of systems as they look to recover from the disappointment of missing out on Champions League football, while European champions Liverpool are also long-time admirers of the winger.

Tottenham and Manchester City are also reported to be interested.

James Maddison | Leicester City | Midfielder

Marcelo has been a mainstay for Real Madrid for over a decade, but his time in the Spanish capital now appears to be in doubt.
The Brazil international, who turned 31 in May, has endured a disappointing season, falling behind Spanish upstart Reguilon in the left-back pecking order and is believed to be considering his options.

Juventus, where he would be reunited with former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, seems to be the most likely destination, particularly if the Bianconeri shift Alex Sandro.

Marcelo | Real Madrid | Defender

Argentina international Lautaro Martinez joined Inter from Racing in 2018 and, despite having his season disrupted by injury, his impressive form at international level has reportedly piqued the attention of Barcelona as they ponder replacement options for Luis Suarez.
The Catalan giants are said to be considering a big offer for the 21-year-old, who has shone at this year's Copa America.

Lautaro Martinez | Inter | Forward

Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric was tipped to leave Real Madrid last summer, but the Croatia captain remained at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Los Blancos look set for an overhaul this summer, with the likes of Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen touted as key targets.

With those parts moving around in the background, Modric could end up deemed surplus to requirements in the capital. The midfielder was linked with Inter, who could potentially rekindle their interest in 2019.

Ruben Neves was on Liverpool's radar last summer, but the Reds did not make a move for the midfielder in the end.
Back then, the Portugal international had just excelled in the Championship and his stock has risen considerably since after a stellar Premier League campaign at the heart of the Wolves midfield.

His performances have piqued the attention of Manchester City and Manchester United, but both clubs will now have to be willing to fork out a premium price for the former Porto star.

Neymar's 2017 transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain, which saw a record-breaking €222 million (£200m/$262m) change hands, made him the most expensive footballer of all time and, remarkably, he could be set to add to his overall career price if rumours are to be believed.
Real Madrid have been linked with the Brazil star for a number of months now and the Liga giants are among a handful of clubs - which includes former team Barca - who could realistically afford such a move. Such a transfer, however, could now be in doubt<a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/there-is-no-evidence-of-anything-barcelona-deny-wrongdoing/owi2pu7ln3ma1gkck09l74id5" target="_blank"> after the Liga champions signed Antoine Griezmann in early July</a>.

Barcelona <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/neymar-wants-barcelona-move-but-there-has-been-no-contact/626xrzd7gctv1oarpasci0tlw" target="_blank">confirmed</a> in June that the Brazilian wants to return to Camp Nou, but PSG are expected to put up stiff resistance to any move – with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/psg-vow-to-take-action-as-neymar-fails-to-show-up-for-pre-season-/18yriqruopkyc10dd3esn1feqp" target="_blank">Neymar even refusing to turn up to pre-season training in France</a>.

A product of the Paris Saint-Germain youth ranks, central midfielder Christopher Nkunku has gradually made strides to cement his place in the first-team squad over the past two seasons.
Arsenal failed in their bid to bring him to north London in January, but they are set to revisit the idea this summer, particularly having lost Aaron Ramsey to Juventus. Nkunku is expected to cost the Gunners at least £20 million ($26m).

However, they may have encountered a difficulty in getting the deal over the line, with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig reportedly ready to steal in with a late bid.

Lille striker Nicolas Pepe is one of the most sought-after targets in Ligue 1 at the moment after a goal-laden season in the north of France.
Arsenal were monitoring the player's availability in January, but the Gunners are sure to face more opposition in the race for his signature this summer and their position is weakened somewhat having failed to secure Champions League football.

Not only that, the Ivory Coast international's transfer fee will have inflated somewhat too, with bids in the region of €40 million (£34m/$45m) likely to be demanded for his services.

Liverpool are another club that have been strongly linked.

Nicolas Pepe | Lille | Forward

With Juventus failing to achieve Champions League glory in 2018-19 after signing Cristiano Ronaldo the club is set for an overhaul in the summer.
One area where they have stumbled in comparison to their continental rivals is in midfield and Miralem Pjanic could well be a casualty. The Bosnia and Herzegovina star was brought to Turin in 2016 ostensibly as a replacement for the outgoing Andrea Pirlo, but he is not as indispensible as the Italian.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are reportedly interested, but will need to pay upwards of €50 million (£43m/$56m).

Miralem Pjanic | Juventus | Midfielder

So much has been written and said about Paul Pogba since his return to Manchester United and the midfielder could be forgiven for wanting respite from the unrelenting glare of criticism in England.
When Jose Mourinho was in charge, a Pogba exit from Old Trafford seemed inevitable, but the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has boosted the club's chances of keeping him.

Despite regularly being on the receiving end of verbal lashings from former Red Devils captains Roy Keane and Gary Neville, the World Cup winner still has plenty of admirers, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, who would be delighted to have him.

Indeed, in June, he even <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/pogba-it-could-be-a-good-time-to-have-a-new-challenge/186dos25o60eqzahm4n6y0jmh" target="_blank">suggested</a> himself that it could be time for a "new challenge".

The midfielder said: "After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well ... I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else."

Paul Pogba | Manchester United | Midfielder

Ivan Rakitic may be <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/i-dont-want-to-be-anywhere-else-rakitic-sends-transfer/o993qycyuyyi11nv62tjdqft9" target="_blank">hoping</a> for a new Barcelona contract, but the Croatia international's future at Camp Nou depends on the club's recruitment over the summer.
Barca have already secured the signing of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax and they are in the market for more reinforcements in that area of the pitch, with the likes of Adrien Rabiot and Paul Pogba on their radar. Rakitic was linked with Serie A side Inter in January.

Declan Rice was at the centre of a controversial allegiance switch at international level in early 2019 when he turned his back on the Republic of Ireland in order to play for England and another big move could potentially happen this summer.
The West Ham midfielder's stock has risen considerably over the past two seasons and his performances have seen him linked to Manchester City and Manchester United, despite the fact that he penned a new long-term contract with the Hammers in December.

A bid upwards of £30 million ($40m) will be required to convince West Ham to let him go though.

Declan Rice | West Ham | Midfielder

Colombia star James Rodriguez finds himself at a crossroads this summer and he will surely be weighing up his options as he plans to take the next step in his career.
Bayern Munich have a €42 million (£36m/$47m) purchase option to make the playmaker’s temporary stay permanent and were expected to exercise it, with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stating his belief that the player would be at the club in 2019-20.

However, talks have stalled, which could open up a chance for Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus and Napoli, who have all been linked in the past. Either way, a return to Real Madrid looks unlikely, with Zinedine Zidane preferring other players to James.

AC Milan full-back Ricardo Rodriguez could be on his way out of San Siro this summer with both Arsenal and Barcelona circling.
The Gunners are on the hunt for a new left-back and Rodriguez has been touted as a potential addition, with some reports suggesting that he could form part of a swap deal.

Barca are reportedly willing to pay around €15m (£13m / $17m) for the Switzerland international, which is a relatively low fee for such a seasoned campaigner.

Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba had a breakthrough year with the French club and his performances have drawn the attention of Arsenal, who have made him a top transfer target this summer.
The centre-back, 18, is valued at £25 million ($32m) by Saint-Etienne and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/arsenal-identify-25m-saliba-as-top-summer-transfer-target/10nu6t4le0p431gpo1ksbwe1ce" target="_blank">it's a price Unai Emery is willing to pay</a> after watching his side concede over 50 goals in the Premier League in his first season at Arsenal.

Saliba has been linked with Manchester United in the past and Jose Mourinho has compared the France Under-19s international to Kurt Zouma.

Alexis Sanchez has been a flop since joining Manchester United from Arsenal during the 2017-18 season and the club's money men have grown frustrated as they continue to be denied any sort of reasonable return on their investment.
The Chile international earns around £400,000 a week for his services to the Old Trafford club, but he is likely to be moved on, having failed to live up to expectations.

With such high wages and a contract which runs until 2022 it may be difficult for the Red Devils to find a buyer for their ageing asset, so a loan move may be more realistic. Paris Saint-Germain - one of the few clubs well placed to afford him - have been linked.

England international Jadon Sancho took a massive risk when moving from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund as a teenager, but it has paid off as he establishes himself as one of the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/jadon-sancho-beats-vinicius-jr-to-win-nxgn-award-for-worlds-best-/vntibsmdovq13jr58m1afntl" target="_blank">brightest prospects</a> in world football.
His exploits for the Bundesliga giants have catapulted him into the spotlight and - somewhat ironically - Manchester United are reportedly willing to meet the €80 million (£70m/$90m) price tag that has been placed on him. However, according to Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc, they are <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/borussia-dortmund-warn-man-utd-that-sancho-will-not-be-sold/1azps3oynt6v51pe6vj8xcsokd" target="_blank">not selling</a>.

"I'm far from putting a price tag on Jadon, but I will say that, even for the biggest club in the world, his transfer would be difficult right now," Zorc told Sport Bild. "Jadon will play at Dortmund next season and we are definitely planning with him."

Leicester City, now managed by Tierney's former boss Brendan Rodgers, are another possible destination for the left-back, who will, no doubt, be eager to replicate the success of compatriot and fellow full-back Andy Robertson.

The Rossoneri do not have the same financial might that they had in the past, so any potential deal would probably involve a Milan player going the opposite direction too.

Germany international Timo Werner has been a target for Bayern Munich for some time now and the Bavarians are expected to step up their efforts to sign him this summer as they prepare for an overhaul of personnel.
The RB Leipzig striker, who is also adept on the wing, has been a key player for his club, hitting double figures in the past three seasons, but he is not likely to renew his contract.

That decision will force the east German side’s hand in the transfer market, making them more amenable to doing business with their rivals, but they are likely to expect a considerable fee in the region of £60 million ($80m).

Liverpool have also been linked with Werner, with Klopp known to be an admirer.

Arsenal are on the lookout for more attacking firepower as they look to improve their Premier League standing and they are set to turn to Wilfried Zaha.
The Ivory Coast international, whose last stint at a top-six club didn't work out, has improved and matured in the intervening years.

Still only 26, Zaha's potential switch to the Emirates Stadium could hit a snag if Palace are not willing to reduce their asking price of £80 million ($101m).
