WHAT HAPPENED?

Maddison has registered three goals and five assists through 11 Premier League appearances this season, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/tottenham-can-win-premier-league-james-maddison-ange-postecoglu/blt8d1b3b2eaa2f54a9" target="_blank">helping Spurs to position themselves among the frontrunners in the English top-flight</a>. He is, however, set to be unavailable for the foreseeable future.

Speaking ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Wolves, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said: "Madders, a lot worse than we thought. He came off with the ankle injury, but the next day wasn’t great so we sent him off for a scan. So again not great for him and probably into the new year for him."Earlier in the day, journalist <a href="https://twitter.com/pokeefe1/status/1722942416091533775" target="_blank">Paul O'Keefe</a> reported that Maddison could be out for as long as three months with the knock, which he sustained <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/tottenham-chelsea-winners-losers-ange-postecoglou/blt2510f14292535208" target="_blank">during an eventful 4-1 defeat to Chelsea</a>. Micky van de Ven was also injured during that contest and is also facing an extended spell away from the action. To compound matters further, Richarlison is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/richarlison-hasnt-been-playing-good-football-tottenham-brazil-squad-omission-surgery-plan-pelvis-problem/blt01e47c75b76351a6" target="_blank">expected to be out for a month after undergoing surgery</a>.

WHAT THEY SAID

Spurs will be desperate to get Maddison back as soon as possible. If he were to be missing for a month, then he would return ahead of the busy festive period. If three months need to be sat out, then he would be unavailable until mid-February – which could see him miss up to 12 vital Premier League fixtures, including matches against Manchester City, Newcastle and Manchester United.
