One of the most clinical players Germany has produced, Klose is their highest-ever goalscorer on the international stage.The 2006 World Cup Golden Boot winner made his international debut against Albania back in 2001, scoring in a 2-1 win. Just four days later, he scored his second goal against Greece in a 4-2 win for his country to confirm his reputation as a top-class striker. Termed as a "World Cup specialist", Klose led Germany to glory in 2014 and went on to score a total of 71 goals in 137 games for the national team at an impressive 0.52 goals-per-game ratio.

Winner of the Ballon d'Or in 1970, Gerd Muller was at the peak of his powers when he led Germany to European Championship and World Cup glory in 1972 and 1974 respectively.The Bayern Munich legend made his Germany debut in 1966 and his first goals for Germany came in a 6-0 win against Albania in which he scored four.Muller netted 68 goals in 62 matches for Germany, at an astonishing 1.10 goals-per-game ratio, the best in German football history.

Then Poland national team coach Pawel Jenas ignored him stating "as of today we have much better strikers in Poland and I don't see a reason to call up a player just because he played one or two good matches in the Bundesliga. One of those rare players who reached the World Cup final both as a player and manager, Rudi Voller was a revelation in his prime.The attacker won the 1990 World Cup in Italy, with his best performances for Germany coming in the same tournament as he scored three goals and provided two assists including one against Argentina in the final to help his team win their third trophy.He amassed 47 goals in 90 appearances for Germany in total.As Germany's manager, Voller surprisingly led his country to the final of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, which they lost against Brazil.

One of the greatest midfielders of the modern era, Michael Ballack oozed class as he redefined the central midfield position in the 2000s.He made his debut for Germany in an international friendly against Scotland, playing 31 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Scotland in 1999 and was part of the German national team that suffered consecutive heartbreaks at World Cups 2002 and 2006.The midfield general missed Germany's World Cup final loss against Brazil in 2002 with a suspension and was part of the team that lost to Italy in the semi-final of the World Cup in 2006.In his 11-year stint with Germany, Ballack scored 42 goals in 98 games.His retirement from international football was rather tragic as he was effectively forced out of the team by Joachim Low in an announcement made in 2011.
