'Staying here would be wonderfull' - Politano keen on permanent Inter switch

Inter winger Matteo Politano says he wants to stay at San Siro and hopes to do enough to earn a permanent deal between now and the end of the season.

Politano joined Inter on loan from Sassuolo last summer with the option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

The 25-year-old has been a regular for Luciano Spalletti’s side, making 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.

Speaking exclusively to Goal, Politano admits he wants to make his loan deal permanent and hopes to do enough between now and May to prove his worth.

“During the season I've had my ups and downs, but that's a normal thing because I wasn't used to playing in as many competitions as we played in this season,” he said.

“Therefore every now and then I wasn't 100 per cent physically, but I'm satisfied with my season so far.

“We have a few matches left now and I'll try to do my best in order to make the move to Inter permanent. Staying here would be wonderful for me.”

Politano says his close relationship with Inter head coach Luciano Spalletti is one of the key reasons why he wants to extend his stay with Nerazzurri beyond next month.

He also says the close bond between the players and a strong work ethic are key to their success, with the club currently third in Serie A and on course for a place in the Champions League next season.

“We have a wonderful relationship,” Politano said of Spalletti. “We talk quite a bit and he gives me a lot of advice, like telling me to play closer to the goal and to be more ruthless. Which is actually what I feel I'm missing most.

“We are all players of high quality so what's important is that everyone gives 100 per cent. Because when you step on the pitch, if someone is giving even just 90 per cent then it becomes tough for the whole team.”

Next up for Inter in Serie A is a match against fifth-placed Roma at San Siro on Saturday.
