The Dutchman's team-mate Ederson reportedly caught the attention of the club's representatives.

The 24-year-old Brazilian international had an impressive outing with the Serie A side as he scored seven goals and provided an assist in 37 matches across all competitions. He played an important role in <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/gianpiero-gasperini-atalanta-world-biggest-overachievers-dismantle-unbeatable-bayer-leverkusen/blt6d7252d881ff8cee" target="_blank">Atalanta finishing fourth in the league</a> and winning the Europa League, where they beat Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

Should Koopmeiners still move to Anfield, he will reunite with Arne Slot, a manager he played under at AZ. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/arne-slot-joins-liverpool-reds-confirm-appointment-of-dutchman-as-jurgen-klopp-s-successor-at-anfield/blt9d784afe0fa57a8d" target="_blank">Slot will formally replace Jurgen Klopp</a> as the Merseyside club's manager on June 1.
