    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Reds are yet to make their first signing of the summer, having failed to lure main target Martin Zubimendi away from Real Sociedad. As they close in on another La Liga star in the form of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, Liverpool are now reportedly also ready to make a bid for Everton's Branthwaite.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Sun claim that Liverpool have prepared a mammoth offer worth £63 million ($82.7m) plus £7 million ($9.1m) in add-ons to try and sign the centre-back from their Merseyside rivals. The highly-rated 22-year-old has been a major target for Manchester United, who have had two bids rejected by the Toffees, with the latest offer reported to be around £50 million ($65.6m).

    WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?

Liverpool and Slot are open to selling Joe Gomez before the end of the transfer window with Newcastle United reportedly knocking on the door. The sale would mean that the Reds will be able to go all-out to try and sign Branthwaite before the transfer window closes at 11 PM BST on August 30.
