The fears came from the club's Human Resources department, and while Ten Hag believed he was being supportive, it is reported that he <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/man-utd-did-not-ask-jadon-sancho-permission-erik-ten-hag-revealed-mental-health-struggles-last-season/blt2c081a59b9e83518" target="_blank">never received approval from Sancho</a> to speak about his struggles in front of the media.

At the time, the two were at loggerheads, as <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/jadon-sancho-better-off-out-man-utd-erik-ten-hag-refusal-drop-marcus-rashford-preventing-progress/blt6fbb17790c384d1b" target="_blank">Ten Hag had claimed he was unprofessional, while Sancho hit back by insisting it was untrue</a>. Sancho actually felt that he was being bullied to a point by his manager, and, of course, made a loan move to Borussia Dortmund last season as he sought a fresh start.
