Alexis Sanchez's dogs now have their own banner at the Emirates Stadium

EXTRA TIME

The campaign to persuade Alexis Sanchez to stay at Arsenal has taken a bizarre new turn.

With his contract running down, Gunners fans are pulling out all the stops to convince their star man the Emirates Stadium is the place to be - not just for him, but also his dogs.

Alexis' love affair with his two pets, Atom and Humber, has become the stuff of legend on social media, with the Chilean creating a dedicated Instagram account for them and even stitching their names on his boots.

And in an apparent attempt by fans to show that their love for the player extends to his family, a banner dedicated to the dogs is now taking pride of place at the Emirates.

Sitting just below the tributes to Arsenal's League Cup victory in 1987 and dramatic title win in 1989, it reads 'GOOD BOYS' and features a picture of Alexis with Atom and Humber.

The banner looks set to make its debut when Arsenal take on Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday, and has drawn a mixed reaction from Arsenal fans.

Alexis, like Mesut Ozil, is out of contract in the summer of 2018 and has been linked with the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the constant speculation and visible frustration on the pitch in recent weeks, however, the forward recently claimed he was "happy and comfortable" in north London.

Alexis is the Premier League's joint-top goalscorer with Chelsea's Diego Costa and Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic, all of whom have netted 14 times in the English top flight.
