WHAT HAPPENED
Angel City FC has fired head coach Becki Tweed, the club announced on Monday. Tweed was the club's manager for one full season, and took over as interim coach midway through 2023. Overall, 2023 was a better run for Tweed, who led Angel City to an 11-game unbeaten streak and a playoff appearance. In 2024, she took over as head coach, however the club would go on to finish in 12th place out of 14 teams.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Tweed's firing comes just days after another major change in the Angel City front office. Last week, the club announced that they agreed to mutually part ways with general manager Angela Hucles Mangano. Assistant coach Eleri Earnshaw will take over as interim head coach and assistant GM Matt Wade will take over as GM.
WHAT ANGEL CITY SAID
"Becki has been an integral part of Angel City FC, demonstrating an exceptional work ethic, a deep care for her staff and players, and an unwavering desire to learn and grow,” ACFC technical director Mark Wilson said in a statement. “Her commitment to personal and professional development reflects Becki’s dedication to the game and ability to positively influence those around her.
“Despite the challenges and results of a tough season, Becki’s resilience and determination leave a lasting impression. She departs ACFC well-respected, and we have no doubt wherever she lands next, her talents and character will make a significant impact. We thank Becki for her contributions over the past two seasons and wish her the very best in her journey ahead."
