Neville urges 'disinterested' Martial to start showing his love for the game

Gary Neville has advised Anthony Martial to step up and start showing some more consistency at Manchester United.

The winger has been in and out of the team in 2016-17, with Jose Mourinho often selecting the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford in place of the Frenchman.

Martial has struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting XI, with the 21-year-old scoring two goals from his 13 league appearances this season.

And Neville wants the former Monaco star to up his game, insisting that his performances vary from sensational to those where he looks disinterested.

He wrote on Twitter: "He's [Martial] only achieving a very small part of his potential. He ranges from sensational to disinterested. Let's hope he gets going now!

"He has the talent to become a very special player. He needs to show his love for the game and display that in his performances."

Rooney's Man Utd career in doubt

Former United right-back Neville also commented on Luke Shaw and when a supporter suggested he may have a dislike for Martial, he added: "I do like him but like others want to see him realise his potential.

"Same with Luke Shaw. They are both huge talents."
